Dance News

All of you that have been to our 1940's style dances could not have failed to see and admire

Esther & The Jitterbugs, showing us all how it should be done !

All the museum team were saddened to hear that Pete Jarvis,a member of The Jitterbugs had lost his battle against illness

and sadly has passed away.

'A tribute to Pete Jarvis'

As our dear leader during the war years, Winston Churchill said, "We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets. We shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender". Unfortunately our good friend Pete Jarvis did eventually have to surrender his fight, but the fighting that he did was "on the beaches, albeit Southwold and Pakefield , the landing grounds, on all our weekenders at British and US air force bases , in the fields were, where we parked our caravans and the hills were the ones he had climbed. All of us who knew Pete, just admired his fight, his tenacity, his really strong sense of humour, especially after his diagnosis some 2 years ago, the humour just grew, his way of dealing with life. We did have some fun, even as he was getting weaker, (he needed help to stand up), but he still wanted to have a dance and that just became an excuse to hold onto his dance partner tighter, the exploits in his wheelchair don't even bear thinking about, but Trish, Sharon & I often threatened him with a very severe push down a steep slope, or to leave him stuck in the mud. What more can I say about a man, who even on his darker days was an inspiration to us all, he was a complete man and I know for one if I could be just half the man he was I would be very happy and pleased. Goodbye Pete, we all will miss you terribly, but I know where ever you are, you are making someone laugh and don't forget everything is on an "eight count".
